My story...

Living in pain is not normal. I realize that sounds as if it should be a well known fact, however, millions of people are walking around with daily aches and pains due to unsuspected food allergies. After a while these pains begin to feel all too familiar and fade into what we consider normal aches and pains. Up until five years ago I belonged to that club. I lived with daily pain that wrecked my stomach and ached into my bones. The pain became part of my daily life and I considered it to be normal 'ole me".

I did my best to be aware and not complain as often as I felt the need. At times though, it couldn't be helped. I can remember sitting in restaurants, halfway through my meal, curling my knees into my chest in fetal position, trying to carry on a conversation with friends.

I remember endless notes from my parents excusing me from P.E. I had more tardy slips than anyone else in my class. Quite often my absent days outweighed those I attended. Around the age of 16 my diagnosis ranged from irritable bowel syndrome to spastic colon. Nothing really seemed to help. Almost everyday I had migraine headaches, bone pain, and stomach cramping. I became obsessed and diagnosed myself with some type of Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia mix.

I got very clever at pain management tricks, which later came in handy to me as a midwife assistant for home-births. The most beneficial thing I had to offer was compassion for these women. After all, I felt as if my body had been experiencing the pains of natural childbirth for the last twenty years.

It was actually my own pregnancy that intensified my pain and bodily torment. I spent most of those nine months confined to bed rest. With a breech baby that just wouldn't budge, this home birthing mama-to-be was forced to trade in the warm water birthing tub for a morphine drip and a Caesarean Section, including all the bells and whistles modern medicine provides.

After the birth/major abdominal surgery, my symptoms exploded in myself and my infant son. Each sleepless night blurred into the next with abdominal pains, projectile vomiting and agony beyond words.

WE were finally diagnosed with gluten intolerance. Hallelujah! A diagnosis with a suggested diet to follow that has led to pain free living for me and my son. I remember feeling as if there was nothing in the world that was safe for us to eat. I remember the books I read, the all night internet searches, the support groups, the chat rooms.

It took a little while but finally I was pain free and my body felt so good! I quickly became afraid that I would accidentally overlook an ingredient and get the wrong foods in our diet. I knew the agony that would follow for us both.

Bee Green was actually started because of our need for special diet foods.

I am now able to meet many people in that same beginners zone that do not know which way to turn. They feel like they have to give up bread, pasta and all their favorite foods.

It is an honor to return the favor of food guidance that was once given to me. I have invested five years of gluten-free food research for my family and I will gladly share what I have learned so that you can have an easier time transitioning into this lifestyle. With so many wonderful products on the market today, you should not feel like you are missing out on any flavor!

I am living proof that you can live a wonderful pain-free life even with food allergies!
